Locanda al Colle
A hotel I constantly return to and never stop talking about is Locanda al Colle. It’s one of those places that stays with you long after the trip is over, a place you find yourself longing to come back to.
The hotel is located above Forte dei Marmi, where the landscape slowly begins to rise into the hills and the pace of life naturally slows down. The road there is narrow and slightly winding, and once you arrive you’re welcomed by Riccardo and his wonderful team. It feels less like checking into a hotel and more like arriving at your Italian uncle’s home.
The first thing that always strikes me when I get there is the stillness. Not a silence that feels empty, but one filled with wind, cicadas, and that calm rhythm that only exists in Tuscany. Here, you slow down without even noticing it happening.

The feeling, as I said, is very much like coming home to someone. Every detail at Locanda al Colle has been carefully curated by Riccardo — from Art Deco pieces to 70s vintage, and scents that feel just as thoughtfully chosen as the materials themselves. Everything, both indoors and outdoors, is combined with an effortless sense of balance.
You walk around quietly saying “wow” to yourself the entire time. And just when you think it can’t possibly get better, you step into the next room and realize they’ve somehow created yet another perfect combination.

Mornings start slowly. Maybe you begin the day with a dip in the pool. Coffee that tastes exactly how coffee should taste, fresh bread, maybe a ripe fig that was just picked. No rushed buffets, no queues — just a feeling of wanting to linger, to stay a little longer and enjoy the morning, gazing out over the Mediterranean, just visible in the distance.

One final tip is to enjoy the sunset, because here you truly get the perfect golden hour.
Locanda al Colle is a place I can wholeheartedly recommend you visit. Either with someone who means a lot to you, or why not on a little solo trip?
You can find all the information about my little favourite hotel here. Take care of it!
